We work with people with a wide range of abilities. Our charitable aims define this group as being "people with learning disabilities and those who support them". Some people prefer the term "learning difficulties". We prefer the term "people".

The term learning disabilities/difficulties is defined as people with:

  • a significant impairment of intellectual functioning, as well as
  • a significant impairment of social functioning, and that
  • both of these impairments were acquired before adulthood

(Source DSM IV)

Some of the conditions associated with learning disability are:

  • Down's syndrome
  • Autistic spectrum conditions
  • Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Microcephaly
  • Fragile X
  • Rett's syndrome
